Dorcas Lucille Pope, born on February 18, 1953, passed away peacefully on September 28, 2024, in Amelia County, Virginia, at the age of 71. She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Smith; her brother, Daniel Smith; and her beloved husband of 36 years, Ernest S. Pope, Sr. Dorcas dedicated over 30 years of her professional life to the Virginia Department of Corrections, where she retired after a career of service. She will be remembered for her commitment to her profession. Above all else, Dorcas was a devoted mother to her three sons, Stanley Pope (Thais), Jason Pope (Brooke), and Mark Pope (Brandi) and her daughter, Sandra Pope-Lynch (Johnny). Dorcas cherished her role as a grandmother, pouring her heart into the lives of her seven grandchildren: Skylar, Shaylin, Celeste, Dalton, Colton, Caleb, and Marie. Dorcas is survived by her mother, Lucille Smith, and her brother, Philip Smith. Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation on Thursday, October 3, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Shorter Funeral Home in Farmville, Virginia. A graveside service will be held the following day on Friday, October 4, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Farmville, Virginia. Family and friends are invited to gather at 10:30AM at Shorter Funeral Home where we will form the funeral procession to the cemetery. Those wishing to take part in the procession and follow along to graveside service are welcome to join us at the Funeral Home. Dorcas will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all who knew her. She loved the Lord deeply and is now resting in the arms of Jesus.
