ELSIE ONIS MORRIS KIDD, 90, OF FARMVILLE, PASSED AWAY WEDNESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22, 2010 IN FARMVILLE.
BORN AUGUST 10, 1920 IN BUCKINGHAM COUNTY, SHE WAS THE OLDEST OF FOUR CHILDREN BORN TO THE LATE LACY E. AND DOROTHY SENGER MORRIS.
IN ADDITION TO HER PARENTS, MRS. KIDD WAS PRECEDED IN DEATH BY HER HUSBAND, WILLIAM E. KIDD WHOM SHE MARRIED ON DECEMBER 18, 1941 AND HER BROTHER, L. EARL MORRIS.
SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER CHILDREN: LAWRENCE SAMUEL "SAMMY" KIDD AND HIS WIFE KATIE OF APPOMATTOX, WILLIAM L. "SHORTY" KIDD AND HIS WIFE PEGGY OF NEW STORE AND MARIE K. HILL AND HER HUSBAND ROGER OF ARVONIA, HER GRANDSON, LUKE N. KIDD AND HIS WIFE MARY, HER GREAT GRAND CHILDREN: TAILOR M. KIDD, KAITLIN V. KIDD, AND WILLIAM E. "WILLIE" KIDD. HER SISTER, HELEN M. CHAPPELL OF NEW STORE, HER BROTHER, CLAUDE A. MORRIS AND HIS WIFE, SHIRLEY OF _NEW STORE, HER SISTER-IN-LAW, KATHRYN MORRIS OF NEW STORE. HER STEP-GRANDCHILDREN, MICHELLE R. ROMANAC AND KIMBERLY R. WOODS, HER STEP-GREATGRANDCHILDREN: MCKINLEY D. CALDWELL, DAMIEN J. WOODS. BRITTANY R. WOODS, BRIDGETT D. WOODS, CAMARON J. WOODS AND MADISON BROOKS AND FIVE STEP GREAT-GREAT GRANDCHILDREN.
SHE GRADUATED FROM CURDSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL IN 1938.
SHE LIVED IN HURTSVILLE, FARMVILLE AND HOMESTEAD, FL WHILE WILLIAM WAS IN SERVICE. WHILE SHE WAS IN FARMVILLE SHE WORKED AT A DINER. AFTER WORLD WAR II, THEY BUILT A HOME IN THE NEW STORE AREA, THEN SOLD THAT HOME, RENTED A HOUSE ACROSS FROM THE STORE, AND THEN BUILT THEIR LAST HOME IN 1960.
ELSIE STARTED OPERATING KIDD'S GROCERY AROUND 1954 IN A LOG CABIN. IN 1957 THE STORE BUILDING WAS BUILT WHICH SHE OPERATED UNTIL DECEMBER 31, 1999. SHE WAS ALWAYS WORKING IN THE GARDEN, CANNING, FREEZING AND MAKING PICKLES AND PRESERVES, WHICH WERE PREPARED IN THE KITCHEN LOCATED IN THE BACK OF THE STORE. SHE ALWAYS ENJOYED SHARING HER HOMEMADE ITEMS WITH HER FRIENDS. SHE MADE JELLY, RELISH, AND PICKLES TO GIVE AS CHRISTMAS GIFTS IN 2009. SHE ALWAYS ENJOYED SHARING HER ROSES, WHICH SHE TOOK TO PEOPLE WHEN SHE VISITED AND TO THE BANK AND DOCTOR'S OFFICE.
OVER THE YEARS SHE RAISED CHICKENS, DUCKS, GEESE, PEACOCKS, AND GUINEAS. SHE ALSO KEPT A DOG AND CATS.
ONE OF HER HOBBIES WAS TO GO FISHING. SHE ALSO ENJOYED GOING TO THE LONGWOOD PLAYERS PERFORMANCES WITH HER GRANDSON LUKE. IN THE LAST FEW YEARS SHE ENJOYED PLAYING GAMES WITH HER GRANDCHILDREN, SHE READ NOVELS AND WORKED WORD SEARCH TO PASS THE TIME WHEN SHE NO LONGER COULD BE ACTIVE.
ELSIE WAS A MEMBER OF NEW STORE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH WHERE SHE SERVED AS AN ELDER, DEACON, PRESIDENT OF WOMEN OF THE CHURCH AND PREPARED THE COMMUNION. SHE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF CURDSVILLE COMMUNITY CENTER AND THE ROSE SOCIETY.

FUNERAL SERVICES WILL BE CONDUCTED AT 2:00 PM, SUNDAY IN NEW STORE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. INTERMENT WILL FOLLOW IN THE CHURCH CEMETERY. THE FAMILY WILL RECEIVE FRIENDS FROM 7:00 UNTIL 8:30 PM, SATURDAY AT THE CHURCH.
MEMORIALS MAY BE MADE TO NEW STORE PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
