Frank Arena

Francisco “Frank” Anthony Arena, 87 of Rice passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 in Lynchburg.  He was born November 8, 1925 to the late Antonio and Grazia Lascala Arena.  Mr. Arena was a retired fireman, and served his country in the United States Marine Corps.  Frank was also the owner of Arena Trucking for over 50 years.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Suzanne Arena, his daughter, Susan Varner; his siblings, Orazio, Joseph, Anthony, Salvi and Eugene Arena and Josephine Canalli and Tina Rice.

He is survived by his son, Howard Arena of Rice, daughters, Renee Olson (Mike) of Chesterfield and Dorothy Brockert of Alexandria, his brothers, James and John Arena of MA and four grandchildren, Meganne and Max Olson and Christine Chorkis and husband, Joel and Caleb Varner and his wife, Alison; also four great grandchildren, Benjamin, William and James Chorkis and Vivienne Varner.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 4, 2013 11:00am at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Farmville with interment to follow in Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Sunday, November 3, 2013 6:00-8:00pm at the Shorter Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston, MA or the Rice Volunteer Fire Department.  Shorter Funeral Home is serving the family.
