Howard Ragland

December 10, 1929 — January 8, 2011

SFC Howard Finley Ragland (U.S. Army Ret.) passed away on January 8, 2011. He was born December 10, 1929 in Sumiton Alabama to the late Homer Finley and Lucy Jane Phillips Ragland He served in the Army as a Drill Sergeant, at Fort Jackson, SC. and a Gun Platoon Leader with the Old Guard at Fort Myer, VA. He served in the Korea Conflict, where he was awarded the Purple Heart, and the Vietnam War before retiring. He went on to work for and retire from the Military Club System.
SFC Ragland was preceded in death by his beloved wife Anne Lucy Barron Ragland and a son Ronald Lee Ragland. He is survived by his son Stanley Howard Ragland and wife Julia of Green Bay, VA; son Gary Vaughn Ragland and wife Kristi of Summerville, SC; grandchildren Benjamin Ragland, Joshua Ragland and wife Brandy, Hannah Eure and husband Ronnie, Sarah Ragland, Meagan Ragland, Jessie Ragland and Lucy Ragland; four great grandchildren, Sterling, Shelby and Lydia Eure and Joshua (JC) Ragland; sister Sandra Beddingfield and brother Jerry Ragland both of Alabama and a niece Gail Blackwell of Raleigh NC and numerous other nephews and nieces.
The family will receive friends Friday evening January 14, 2011 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at the funeral home.
A graveside service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery, Thursday January 27, 2011 at 2:00PM.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Association and/or American Diabetes Associations
