Jack Carl Manis, age 94, of Buckingham, Virginia, entered in the presence of his
Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 3, 2026.
Jack was born in Sevierville Tennessee, to the late Lola Mollie Huskey Manis and
David Arthur Manis. He lived a life marked by faith, service, love for family, and
devotion to his country and community.
Jack was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Betty Manis, and a cherished
brother, uncle and friend. He is survived by his wife Betty; his brother, Paul Manis
and wife Brenda of Tennessee; and his sisters-in-law, Elizabeth Manis of Virginia
and Helen Manis of Tennessee, brother and sister-in-law Billy and Brenda Gibby
of North Carolina, brother-in-law David Panther of North Carolina.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Glenn Manis,
Vaughan Manis (Maye), Hugh Manis, and T.M. Manis; and his sisters, Lucille West
(Luke), Betty Carr (Frank), and Ruby Harris (Joe), sister-in-law June Panter and
Inez Gibby of North Carolina.
Jack proudly served in the United States Army for a brief time and remained a patriot
throughout his life, holding a deep love and respect for his country.
More than anything, Jack loved people. He especially loved children and had a
special place in his heart for his many nieces and nephews. Over the years, he
helped care for several children, becoming a father figure whom they affectionately
called “Poppa,” a name that remains a testament to the love and guidance he gave
so freely.
A faithful lifelong member of Concord Baptist Church, Jack served the congregation
in numerous ways, including as a Deacon. He was dedicated to the work of the
church and found great joy in serving others. For many years, he faithfully drove the
church van on Sunday mornings, picking up college students and bringing them to
church. Whether through acts of service, words of encouragement, or quiet
faithfulness, Jack loved serving the Lord Jesus Christ however he could.
Jack will be remembered for his humble spirit, servant’s heart, steadfast faith, and
genuine love for others. His life was a reflection of the Christian values he held dear,
and his legacy will continue through the many lives he touched with kindness and the
love of Christ.
Though he will be greatly missed by his family, church family, and friends, they rejoice
in the assurance that he is now at home with the Lord he faithfully served throughout
his life.
“Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”—Matthew 25:23
The family would like to thank all the UVA hospital nurses and DR teams who
cared for Jack- they were all awesome. The family also appreciates the love,
prayers, and support extended to them during Jack’s illness and in this time of loss.
