Janie Thorpe

Janie Colley Thorpe, 96 of Rice, VA passed away Sunday, January 16, 2011 in Farmville.

Born September 14, 1914 in Buchanan County, VA, Mrs. Thorpe was the daughter of the late Lewis and Josie Colley. She was a homemaker and a member of Pisgah Baptist Church, Rice.

She was the widow of Woodrow Wilson Thorpe and was preceded in death by her daughter Jessie Louise Dow, son-in-law William E. Dow, and her granddaughter Carolyn Dow Welsh

Surviving are her daughter, Mabel Oakes and husband, Douglas "Mac" Oakes of Rice, two granddaughters, Pamela Jean Atkins and husband Stephen of Glouster, Tracey Lynn O'Brien and husband, William of Midlothian and five great- grandchildren Amanda K. Wells, Kimberly A. Welsh, Raven Wilson Harris, Jamie Katherine Morris and Ashley Renee Harris and two great- great-granddaughters, Madalynn and Olivia Wells.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, January 19, 2011 in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
