Joseph Clarence Crump

Joseph “Joe” Clarence Crump, age 88, of Sheppards, Virginia, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, January 11, 2024.  Joe was born in Buckingham County, VA, to the late William Harvey and Martha McLean Crump. Joe was a retired contractor with Crump Construction Company, Inc., which he started with his brother, W. D. “Bill” Crump, Sr.  Prior to that, the two brothers owned a sawmill. Joe was known for his kind soul, making jokes, and telling stories of the old days. He was a top notch mechanic when it came to working on the construction equipment, and he had massive skills operating a motor grader.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers W.D. “Bill” Crump, Sr., Ray Crump, Charles Crump, Johnny Crump, Dewey Crump, Sr., Carl Crump, James Crump; sisters Bertha Crump Hedgepeth, and Wilma Crump Dickinson; a special nephew, W. D. “Billy” Crump, Jr., who he worked with and saw nearly every day for over 70 years. 

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at 2 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery, 12053 Francisco Road, Farmville, VA. Shorter Funeral Home is serving the family.
