Katherine Hobgood

Katherine Collins Hobgood, 68 of Meherrin passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. She was born October 2, 1949 to Massie L. and Margaret Foster Collins. Katherine grew up in Keysville. She loved flowers and her “babies” Sophie and Cocoa, her cats. She was the wife of Augustin D. Hobgood III, they were married nearly 50 years and she helped him with the dairy farm. She was the first female member of the Prince Edward County Ruritan Club. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant Church and a member of the United Methodist Women. Katherine was a loving and caring wife, mother and grandmother. She was very close to her sister and her many nieces and nephews.

She is survived by her husband, her children, Gus Hobgood IV and his wife, Jody of Meherrin and Amy H. Ayers and her husband, Scott of Farmville. Also surviving is her sister, Barbara C. Lacks of Keysville and her grandchildren, Augustin “Quentin” Hobgood, Austin T. Ayers and Rachel E. Hobgood.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, May 19, 2018 2:00pm at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with interment to follow in the church cemetery. Family will receive friends on Friday evening 6:00-8:00pm at the Shorter Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Building Fund, 3925 Mt.
