Lena Rose Shinault Dowdy, 97 of Farmville passed away on May 1, 2017. She was born July 3, 1919 to the late Cora Frost Shinault and Eddie Monroe Shinault. She was the wife of Charles “Charlie” H. Dowdy Jr.

She is survived by two sons Charles H. “Chuck” Dowdy (Candy), Gerald W. Dowdy (Dale) and one daughter Charlene Rose Dowdy Lewis, grandchildren; Hollace Ann Dowdy, Christopher H. Dowdy (Cathleen), David J. Dowdy (Lindsey), Anne Elizabeth Dowdy Cvijanovic (Mladen), Sean A. Lewis (Fiancée Madison), Shelby R. L Salerno (Chris), four great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, one very special niece Barbara Jean Trear and special Aunt Lucille S. Dowdy.

She was preceded in death by her 4 sisters; Addie Jones, Lelia Trear, Myrtle Bratton and Kate Stewart.

She served Farmville Presbyterian Church as a secretary, Longwood University and was president of Dowdy Furniture Co. Inc. until closing in 2010.

The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to The Woodland along with the staff of both the Lee Unit and kitchen for their outstanding love and care for Lena Rose.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, May 3, 2017 at 11:00AM at Westview Cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside service at Farmville Presbyterian Church.
