Marvin Orange

Marvin Hable Orange, 88, of Bumpass, VA died Sunday, August 23, 2009, at Henrico Doctor's Hospital, Richmond. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 69 years, Gladys Oertel Orange. This loving couple exemplified the true meaning of family for four generations. Born in Amelia County on November 4, 1920, he was the son of the late Bernard Bowman Orange of Richmond and Mary Mahan Orange of Farmville. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was also preceded in death by his six brothers and sisters.

He is survived by two children; William M. Orange and his wife Virginia of Bumpass, VA and Kathy Orange Judkins and her husband, Mike of Winston Salem, NC, six granddaughters: Deannie Wall, Christy Tomasello, Terry Sacra, Sherry Thomas, Lorri Harris and Kristin Judkins; eleven grandchildren: Timmy, R.D., Ayron, Donald, Jared, Katlyn, Rebecca, Jason, Christopher, Halie and Steve, his "adopted" daughter, Ella Harris, and many nieces and nephews. His many loved ones will sorely miss him.

A U. S. Army veteran of WWII, he was stationed in occupied Germany, serving under Gen. Patton. After returning from WWII, he resumed his employment with Kilkare Laundry; later Longwood College and most recently Deluxe Cleaners. He was a member of Cumberland Presbyterian Church devoting many years of service as Deacon, Elder and Superintendent of Sunday School. He was a charter member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary in Southside Virginia.

On February 16, 2008, the Prince Edward County Volunteer Rescue Squad honored him for years of dedicated service, having served 20 years as their Treasurer. Furthermore, the Squad initiated the "Marvin Orange Rookie of the Year Award", presented annually to a deserving rookie.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am, Wednesday, August 26, 2009 at Cumberland Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Dale Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cumberland Presbyterian Church or Prince Edward Volunteer Rescue Squad.
