Mary Robinson

July 22, 1932 — January 25, 2013

Mary Lou Robinson, 80, of Cartersville and Travelers Rest, South Carolina since 2007, lost her battle with cancer and died on Friday, January 25, 2013. She died in South Carolina surrounded by her family.
Ms. Robinson was previously an active member of Cartersville Baptist Church. She held membership at there for 20 years. In 1970, she moved her church membership to Cumberland Baptist Temple, where the Rev. Roy Dean Farmer was pastor.
She had a very active and successful career and she thoroughly enjoyed working with the public. She started working at Stackpole in Farmville in the 1970's and stayed there for about five years. Then she began working in Powhatan at the ASCS office where she stayed until 1988. She then took a job working for St. John's and St. Mary's Hospital in Richmond in the Medical Records Department for both hospitals and she stayed with Bon Secours until her retirement in 2005.
Ms. Robinson also extremely enjoyed the volunteer work that she did with the Cumberland County Rescue Squad. She played an active and vital role on the rescue squad from 1975 to 1991. The sixteen years that she spent serving her community and volunteering her time on the rescue squad were some of the happiest and most memorable times of her life.
She is survived by three sons, Clark Robinson (Terri Robinson) of Travelers Rest, SC, Harold Dale Robinson (Brenda Jackson Robinson) of Pamplin, and Mack Hamilton Robinson (Sheryl Johnson) of Cartersville; ten grandchildren, Robbie Robinson (Vickie Robinson) of Salem, Kristy Robinson Babcock (Jason Babcock) of Richmond, Traci Hamilton of Travelers Rest, SC, Angie Robinson Camp (Tom Camp) of Pamplin, Brock Robinson (Ashley Dillard Robinson) of Pamplin, Stacey Kinder of Appomattox, Kimberly Boettcher (Jamie Boettcher) of Prospect, Little Mack Hamilton Robinson Jr. (Lisha Gilliam Robinson) of Farmville, Lisa Diane Robinson Allen of Powhatan, and Gayle Page Robinson Leonard (Harry Leonard) of Buckingham; 20 great-grandchildren, Cora Grey Robinson, Daisy Robinson, Joshua Babcock, Jacob Babcock, Julieanne Babcock, Kye Hamilton Latham, Trevor Camp, Jalynn Camp, Caleb Dale Camp, Brooklynn Camp, Auden Brock Robinson, Alexis Dewberry, Madison Dewberry, Summer Boettcher, Kaleigh Boettcher, Mark Boettcher, Hope Greyson Robinson, Hunter Gilliam, Logan Allen, and Shane Allen; brother, DS Grindstaff (Viola Grindstaff) of Green Bay; niece, Shelly Grindstaff Chakford (Karl Chakford) of Delray Beach, FL; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Dallas Robinson Darlene Robinson, both of Dallas, OR.
Ms. Robinson was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Mae Stout Grindstaff (Memmie) in 1997 and her father, Cecil Glenn Grindstaff, her husband, Bert Samuel Robinson in 2010 and daughter, Alice Mae Robinson Burks in 2012.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Cumberland County Volunteer Rescue Squad, Attention: Amy Warlitener, Treasurer, Post Office Box 171, Cumberland, Virginia 23040.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 30 at 9 a.m. at the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with interment to follow at the Cartersville Community Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 29 (tonight) from 6-7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
