Mary (Betty) Wallace

January 24, 1941 — November 9, 2019

Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Chappell Wallace, Roanoke County, VA passed away on Saturday, November 9th, 2019 at her home. She is survived by her husband of 55 years Robert Edward Wallace, one son Terry Wallace (Kimberly), one brother Robert Chappell (Scarlett), two sisters Margaret Mangum (Julian) and Belle Shumaker (Carlton). She is the daughter of the late Washington and Adelle Chappell. Mary graduated from Worsham High School in Prince Edward County, VA and also Longwood College (University) in Farmville, VA. After graduating from Longwood she taught 4th grade in Colonial Heights, VA. She also taught in at Spring Lake, NC while Robert was in the Army and stationed in Ft. Bragg, NC. While Robert was deployed to Viet Nam, she taught school at Keysville Elementary in Keysville, VA. Upon leaving the army the couple moved to Roanoke, VA where she taught for many years at East Salem Elementary and Mt. Pleasant Elementary schools. Her hobbies included doll collecting, arts and crafts, and world travel with her husband. She attended Beulah Methodist Church in Abilene, VA while she was growing up, and was a long time member of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, VA.

Graveside Service will be at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at Beulah Methodist Church in Abilene, VA. Shorter Funeral Home of Farmville Virginia is serving the family.
