Melva "Doll" Scruggs

Melva Lee "Doll" Scruggs, 78, of Rice, died Thursday, December 17, 2009 in Southside Community Hospital.

Born in Prince Edward County, September 22, 1931, Mrs. Scruggs was the daughter of the late Millard Lee and Lizzie Betty Jones Bates. She was formerly a Dispatcher with the Prince Edward County Sheriff's Department.

In addition to her husband, Raymond "Sinclair" Scruggs, she is survived by a special niece whom she considered her daughter, Sandra Duffey and husband, Jimmy, of Keysville, one brother Lee Bates Jr. of Keysville, one sister, Myrtle Corum of Crewe, two grandchildren, Jason Duffey and Amanda Lawson, two great-grandchildren, Trevor Duffey and C.J. Lawson a special friend Dottie Jones of Rice and numerous nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Monday , December 21, 2009 in the Chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with interment following in Sunset Hill Cemetery, Burkeville. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 pm Sunday at the funeral home.
