Peggy Elizabeth Baker
East

Trinity Memorial Gardens
3:00 - 4:00 pm (Eastern time)
Peggy Baker East, 96, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2026, in Appomattox, Virginia. She was born on July 21, 1929, in Charlotte County, Virginia.
Peggy was the devoted wife of Cecil E. East for almost 70 years until his passing in 2018. Together, they were a model of love and devotion. Peggy was a proud mother to Wayne East (Lynn), grandmother to Sandy E. Burruss (George), and great-grandmother to Michael and Maggie Burruss.
She shared a special bond with her siblings, Margaret Jenkins, Nancy Fowler, and Larry Baker (Debby). She held dear the memory of her parents, Russell and Annie Baker, as well as her brothers Russell, Ed, Roy, Jack, and sister Doris who preceded her in death.
Peggy will be remembered for her love of family, baking (especially at Christmastime), sewing, and sitting on her patio. She was a seamstress and worked at the Amelia Dress Factory for many years. She and Cecil loved to go camping and yardsaling throughout their lives. They lived a simple life in their little home in Farmville and took pleasure in gardening and enjoying time with each other there. They were also devoted members of Salem United Methodist Church in Rice.
A graveside service will be held at Trinity Memorial Gardens in Rice, Virginia, on Sunday, May 17 at 3:00 pm.
