Tom "Top Cat" Crede, 82, passed away on April 27, 2025, in Farmville, Virginia. Born on November 23,
1942, in Teaneck, New Jersey.
Tom proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1962 to 1968. From 1962 to 1964, he was
stationed at sea aboard the destroyer U.S.S. Harry E. Yarnell.
After completing his military service, Tom began a successful career with Public Service Electric & Gas
(PSE&G) in New Jersey. Starting as an auto mechanic, he worked his way up to become a Transportation
Supervisor. After dedicating 36 years to PSE&G, Tom retired and relocated to Farmville, Virginia in
1998.
In Farmville, he continued working with vehicles and parts—first at NAPA Auto Parts and later at Fisher
Auto Parts—where he remained a familiar and friendly face to many in the community.
Tom had a deep love for animals and the outdoors. He was especially passionate about breeding, training,
and racing Standardbred horses. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting and walks through the woods with
his dogs. One of his favorite daily rituals was sharing morning coffee at Granny B’s, where stories were
swapped and friendships deepened.
Above all else, Tom was a devoted family man. He shared 59 years of marriage with his wife Joann. He
is also survived by his son Thomas Jr., Thomas’s fiancée Mary, and his grandson Kit.
Tom will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, friend—and an all-around good guy.
