William Johnson

William Edward Johnson, 91, of Farmville, passed away, Monday, February 22, 2010 in Farmville. He was the widower of Nellie Baker Johnson.

Born, May 10, 1918 in Charlotte County, he was the son of the late Ernest Linwood Johnson and Sallie Ramsey Johnson. His son, Linwood Frank Johnson, one sister and seven brothers, also preceded him in death.

Mr. Johnson was a U. S. Army veteran of WWII and a Pearl Harbor survivor. He was the founder and operator of W. E. Johnson Air Conditioning and Refrigeration of Farmville and Petersburg for over 35 years. He was a member of: Farmville Lodge #41 AF&AM, Blandford Lodge # 3 AF&AM in Petersburg, VFW Post 10571 in Prince George, VFW Post 7050 in Farmville and Farmville Baptist Church. He enjoyed woodworking, making numerous clocks, cradles, toys, furniture, and two houseboats. Many of his hand crafted items were gifts to family and friends.

Surviving are his daughter, Peggy Johnson Michener and husband, Curtis of Harleysville, PA, son; William R. "Ronnie" Johnson of Petersburg, four grandchildren: Lucy Johnson Elder and husband, Ricky of Prince George County, Linwood Frank Johnson, Jr. and wife, Tara of Carson, Bonnie Johnson Primm and husband, Matt of Pensacola, FL and Robert Edward Johnson of Petersburg and seven great-grandchildren: Tyler Elder, Mason Elder, Fletcher Primm, Hayden Primm, Savannah Johnson, Owen Johnson and Annabelle Johnson.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, February 26, 2010 at Farmville Baptist Church with Rev. Dr. Michael Cheuk officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 pm, Thursday in the chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with Masonic Rites at 7:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Farmville Baptist Church, 132 N. Main St., Farmville, VA 23901.
