William Lowe

December 14, 1930 — February 10, 2013

Mr. William R. “Joe” Lowe, 82 of Rice passed away on Sunday, February 10, 2013 at his residence.
He was born December 14, 1930 in Farmville to the late John William and Leona Woodall Lowe.  Mr. Lowe was retired from Virginia Department of Transportation.  Joe was very much the mechanic; he loved working on tractors, lawn mowers, etc… anything that he could fix up.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Elizabeth Lowe, his son, Kenneth Wayne Lowe and two sisters, Gladys Franklin of Appomattox and Ann Southall of Farmville.

He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Carmichael (Garland) of Rice, his brothers, John Lowe of Farmville and Clark Lowe (Betty) of Hopewell, sister, Dora Townsend (Woodrow) of Farmville, grandson, David Garland Carmichael (Katie) of Farmville and his great grandchildren, Knox Garland Carmichael and Tinsley Elizabeth Carmichael.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday, February 14, 2013 2:00pm at the chapel of Shorter Funeral Home with interment to be held in Pisgah Baptist Church Cemetery in Rice.  Family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 13, 2013 6:00-8:00pm at the Shorter Funeral Home.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Rice Volunteer Fire Department.
